Bacon Chili Crunch

A chili burger with a playground trick: Black Canyon Angus beef under melted Cheddar, Slater’s bacon chili and a layer of crushed potato chips, with lettuce, tomato and red onion on a brioche bun. The chips add crunch to the soft chili and give it salt. It is messy, heavy and very much a knife-and-fork job once the chili soaks in.

    • $$

Scott Slater opened the first Slater’s 50/50 in Anaheim Hills, California, around 2009 with one idea so simple it is surprising nobody had built a restaurant on it before: a burger patty made from half ground beef and half ground bacon. The bacon is not on the burger, it is the burger.

A small chain based in Southern California, with a few locations in other states.
