The A-Wonderful
Two patties, American cheese, bacon, grilled onions and A.1. steak sauce: a steakhouse burger in fast-casual form. The A.1. is sharp and tangy enough that you taste it in every bite, which is either the point or a dealbreaker. The grilled onions are what make it work, softening the vinegar edge.
The story
A.1. began in England as a sauce for “fish, meat and fowl”. Henderson William Brand, a chef to King George IV, created the brown sauce in 1824, Brand & Co. began selling it in 1831, and the name A.1. was adopted in 1873 after a trademark dispute. The story that the king called it “A1” is a myth: the term came from Lloyd’s Register, which used it for first-rate ships. G. F. Heublein & Brothers began importing it to the United States in 1906, it was sold there as A.1. Steak Sauce from the 1960s, and in 2014 Kraft dropped the word “steak” from the label.

About MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes
Rich Hicks and Todd Istre opened the first MOOYAH in Plano, Texas, in 2007, part of the wave of “better burger” chains of the late 2000s. The name, the company says, is how a cow would shout “Booyah!”, and the whole brand talks in that tone. The first restaurant abroad opened in Dubai in 2013 as the chain’s fiftieth, and the hundredth opened in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2016. In 2017 the founders sold to two private equity firms, Gala Capital Partners and Balmoral Funds.
Around a hundred restaurants in the United States and Canada, plus franchises in the Gulf states.
