Bob's

Bob’s is the only burger chain on this site founded by a Wimbledon champion. Bob Falkenburg, an American tennis player who won Wimbledon in 1948, moved to Brazil and opened a small snack bar in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, in 1952, bringing American-style burgers and milkshakes to a country that had never seen fast food. It was Brazil’s first fast-food chain.

Falkenburg sold the business in the 1970s, but the name stuck, and Bob’s became a Brazilian institution with hundreds of restaurants. Its most famous product is not a burger at all but the Ovomaltine milkshake, so popular that it became a national craving, and then a rivalry when McDonald’s Brazil secured the Ovomaltine brand in 2016.
