Hamburguesa A lo Pobre
The most Peruvian burger on the menu. A grilled patty with a fried egg, fried plantain, white onion, tomato and mayonnaise. The sweet, soft plantain against the salty beef and runny egg is the point, and it is the order that shows why Bembos is not just another burger chain.
The story
A lo pobre means “poor man’s style”, and it is the name of a famous plate in Peru and Chile: a steak topped with fried eggs and served with fried plantain and potatoes, generous enough that the name is a joke. Bembos simply moved the idea into a bun, keeping the egg and the plantain, which makes it a burger that could only really have come from Lima.

About Bembos
Bembos opened its first small restaurant in Miraflores, Lima, on 11 June 1988 and grew into Peru’s best-known home-grown burger chain, the local name people set against the American giants. It tried going abroad, with a restaurant in Mumbai from 2006 and one in Guatemala City from 2009, but those closed after the Peruvian conglomerate Intercorp bought the chain in March 2011 and kept only the business at home. It now runs more than a hundred restaurants, all of them in Peru.
