Teen Burger
The Burger Family member Canadians actually order. A regular patty with bacon, lettuce and tomato, the combination that turns a simple burger into something close to a BLT cheeseburger. It is nostalgic, dependable and exactly what an A&W burger should taste like, ideally with a frosty mug of root beer.
The story
A&W opened in Winnipeg in 1956 as part of the American chain, then split off entirely in 1972 and has been a separate Canadian company ever since. It kept the Burger Family naming from 1963 and made it its own, and where the American chain built its identity around the Papa Burger, Canada’s favourite turned out to be the Teen: a regular patty with bacon and the whole salad. Ask Canadians which burger is theirs and this is the one they name.
