Canada’s A&W, a separate company with its own Burger Family and a Beyond Meat first.

About A&W Canada

A&W opened its first Canadian restaurant in Winnipeg in 1956 as part of the American chain, but in 1972 the Canadian business was sold off and has run independently ever since. The root beer and orange logo are shared; almost everything else, from ownership to the menu, is its own.

The heart of the menu is the Burger Family, sized from a single Mama to a three-patty Grandpa, with the Teen Burger as the family favourite. In 2018 A&W Canada became one of the first big burger chains anywhere to sell Beyond Meat’s plant-based burger nationally, which sold so well that restaurants briefly ran out.

More than 1,000 restaurants across Canada. Not the same company as the American A&W.

Signature burgers first. Only burgers and sandwiches, no sides.

Not affiliated with A&W Canada. Trademarks and logos belong to their owners. Descriptions are my own; nutrition figures come from the chain’s published information.
