KFC
Double Down
The sandwich that replaced the bread with chicken. Two fried fillets act as the “bun” around bacon, melted cheese and a peppery sauce, and it is exactly as salty and over-the-top as it sounds. It became a symbol of fast-food excess almost overnight, and every comeback sells out on curiosity alone.
KFC launched the Double Down across the United States in April 2010, and it instantly became a talk-show punchline and a viral sensation. It left the American menu, then kept resurfacing for limited runs in countries from Australia to the Philippines, each return treated like a small event.
