Tendercrisp
Hungry Jack’s crispy chicken burger, with a crunchy fried chicken fillet, lettuce and mayo. It is a simple, dependable chicken option on a menu dominated by flame-grilled beef, and the crunch holds up well under the sauce.
The story
The Tendercrisp is a Burger King sandwich that Hungry Jack’s, BK’s Australian franchise, sells under its own banner. Burger King announced it as a permanent national menu item in March 2003: a whole chicken breast fillet, about 5.2 ounces, on a corn-dusted bun with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. It was part of a push towards bigger, meatier sandwiches aimed at adults in their twenties and thirties. After years of customer complaints online, Burger King reworked the recipe in 2017.

About Hungry Jack's
When Jack Cowin bought the Australian franchise for Burger King in 1970, he hit a problem: a small Adelaide takeaway had already trademarked the name “Burger King” in Australia. Burger King offered him a list of other names it owned, and he picked Hungry Jack, a Pillsbury pancake mix, adding the apostrophe and an S. The first restaurant opened in Perth in 1971.
Around 440 restaurants across Australia, most of them company-owned.
