Big Jack

Hungry Jack’s answer to the Big Mac, and it made no attempt to hide it: two flame-grilled patties, cheese, lettuce, pickles and a special sauce on a sesame bun with a middle slice. The flame grill gives it a smokier taste than the burger it is aimed at. It is also the only burger on this site that has been through a Federal Court trial.

McDonald’s Australia sued Hungry Jack’s in 2020, arguing that the Big Jack and its larger sibling the Mega Jack infringed the Big Mac trademark. In November 2023 the Federal Court ruled that “Big Jack” was not deceptively similar to “Big Mac” and threw out the claim. Hungry Jack’s did not escape completely: the court found its advertising that the Big Jack had 25 per cent more Aussie beef was misleading.
