Simply Grill’d
The house burger and the benchmark: grass-fed beef with fresh salad, relish and herbed mayo. It is simple on purpose, letting the quality of the beef show. It tastes fresher and lighter than a fast-food burger, which is precisely the point of the place.
The story
Grill’d opened in Hawthorn, Melbourne, in 2004 pitching itself against fast food rather than against other burger shops: grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, chips that are not swimming in oil. The part that made it a neighbourhood fixture is not on the plate. Every order comes with a token, you drop it into one of three jars for local community groups, and the month’s takings are split by how many tokens each jar collected. It is called Local Matters, and it has done more for the brand in Australia than any advertising.

About Grill'd
Simon Crowe opened the first Grill’d in Hawthorn, Melbourne, in 2004, pitching it as a healthier alternative to fast food: grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range and RSPCA-approved chicken, fresh salad and chips that are not drowning in oil. It worked, and it became one of Australia’s biggest burger chains without ever feeling like a drive-thru.
Around 180 restaurants across Australia, plus one in Bali.
