Chook Royale
A lighter chicken burger with grilled tenderloins seasoned with sea salt, garlic and rosemary, topped with pineapple and salad on a smaller wholemeal bun. The herbs and sweet pineapple make it fresh and summery, the one to order when you want a burger that will not slow you down.
The story
Chook is what Australians and New Zealanders call a chicken, a word carried over from British dialect and now so ordinary that nobody there hears it as slang. Putting it on a menu is BurgerFuel being deliberately local, the same instinct behind the beetroot and the aioli: a chain that opened in Ponsonby in 1995 and spent the next thirty years refusing to sound American, right down to what it calls the bird.
