Crunchburger
The signature of Bobby Flay’s burger places. A Certified Angus beef patty with American cheese, Bobby’s Sauce and a layer of potato chips pressed right into the burger. The chips add salt and a proper crunch against the soft bun and melted cheese. It is one of those ideas that feels obvious after the first bite.
The story
Potato crisps in a sandwich is an old American household habit rather than a chef’s invention, and Bobby Flay’s contribution was to put it on a restaurant menu and give it a verb. When he opened Bobby’s Burger Palace in New Jersey in 2006, any burger could be crunchified for a small surcharge. It survived the chain’s collapse during the pandemic and the 2021 relaunch under a shorter name, which is more than most of the menu managed.
