About
Family Guy has been taking shots at this chain for two decades — the focus group, the cowboy hat — so the only fair thing to do was cook the sandwich and find out whether the show has a case.
The technique is the whole thing. Thinly sliced roast beef goes in a pan with a splash of water and a lid on, so it steams rather than fries, and comes out soft enough to pile high without turning stringy. The cheese sauce is milk and cheese and nothing else. The bun is buttered on both cut sides and toasted until golden, which is the only crunch anywhere in it. Eight and a half, and I genuinely do not understand the grudge. If you know where it comes from, tell me.
Ingredients
0 / 9
- Ground beef200 g thinly sliced roast beef
- Burger bun1 sesame burger bun
- Butter2 tbsp butter
- Milk100 ml milk
- Cheddar80 g cheddar, grated
- KetchupKetchup
- Water2 tbsp water
- SaltSalt
- Black pepperBlack pepper
Recipe
- 1Butter both cut sides of the bun and toast them in a pan until golden.
- 2Make the cheese sauce: warm the milk without boiling it and stir the grated cheese in a handful at a time until smooth. Season it.
- 3Put the sliced roast beef in a hot pan, add a splash of water and put a lid on. Two minutes, steaming rather than frying — this is what keeps it soft.
- 4Spread a little ketchup on the bottom bun.
- 5Pile the whole mound of steamed beef on top.
- 6Pour the cheese sauce over it until it runs down the sides, and close it.
