Bacon McDouble
A McDouble with smoked bacon, and the cheapest way to get bacon on a McDonald’s burger. It has never been a permanent national item, turning up on some value menus and vanishing from others. The bacon gives a thin, soft burger some crunch and a lot more flavour, which makes it feel like a bigger upgrade than the price suggests.
The story
The Bacon McDouble is a direct offshoot of the McDouble, the one-slice double cheeseburger McDonald’s made a permanent dollar-menu item in December 2008. In November 2013 the chain added a version with two strips of applewood-smoked bacon to its new US “Dollar Menu & More”, a tiered value menu that replaced the strict one-dollar list. Because it lives on value menus, it has come and gone with each reshuffle of those menus rather than holding a permanent national spot.
