Veg Zinger
The vegetarian Zinger for customers who do not eat meat or paneer, built on a spiced vegetable patty in the same crunchy Zinger coating. It is lighter and softer than the paneer version, and it matters in a country where a big share of customers are vegetarian. The coating carries most of the flavour.
The story
KFC India’s first serious attempt to win vegetarians was this burger. Under a strategy drawn up at the end of 2009, the chain launched a meatless version of its signature Zinger in 2010, keeping the spicy crumb, the sauce and the bun and swapping the chicken for a vegetable patty. It went further in April 2014, when KFC India opened a separate vegetarian menu, believed to be the first in any KFC market, with a Paneer Zinger, a Veg Twister, a potato burger and a vegetarian rice bowl alongside it.
