Chicken & Donuts Sandwich
Fried chicken between two glazed doughnuts, sold in the US for limited runs. The sweet, sticky glaze against salty, crunchy chicken is a Southern brunch combination turned into a sandwich, and it is far more balanced than it has any right to be. Eat it immediately, before the glaze melts into everything.
The story
Sweet bread with fried chicken is older than the gimmick it looks like. Chicken and waffles was being served in Harlem supper clubs in the 1930s, and the pairing of a salty crust with syrup goes back further than that in Southern cooking. KFC tested this version in a few American markets in 2019 and rolled it out nationally the following year, swapping the waffle for two glazed doughnuts, which is the same idea with the sugar turned up.
