About
The Krusty Burger is the flagship burger of Krusty Burger and one of the most recognizable foods in Springfield. It's simple, cheap, and intentionally basic. A thin smash-style beef patty, American cheese, ketchup, mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato. No fancy toppings, no secret ingredients, just the burger that kept customers coming back and supposedly inspired Mr. Burns to eat fifty of them in a single sitting.
FOR THE PATTY:
• 8 oz ground beef, 80/20
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
FOR THE SAUCE AND TOPPINGS:
• 2 tbsp ketchup
• 2 tbsp mayonnaise
• 1 tsp yellow mustard
• 2 slices American cheese
• 2 tomato slices
• 1 large lettuce leaf
FOR ASSEMBLY:
• 2 sesame seed burger buns, toasted
The finished burger should look like a classic fast-food cheeseburger. The patty should extend slightly beyond the bun, the cheese should be fully melted, and the tomato and lettuce should peek out from the sides. Wrap in parchment paper, cut in half, and serve with fries.
Recipe
- 1Mix the sauce setup before cooking. Place the ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard into separate squeeze bottles or small bowls so they're ready for assembly. This burger is all about the exact cartoon-style layering.
- 2Divide the beef into 2 loose balls, about 115g each. Don't pack them tightly. A loose ball creates better crispy edges when smashed.
- 3Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over high heat until lightly smoking. Place a beef ball onto the surface and immediately smash it to about 6 mm thick using a sturdy spatula or burger press. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes until a deep brown crust forms around the edges.
- 4Flip the patty and immediately place an American cheese slice on top. Cook for another 60 to 90 seconds until the cheese is melted but not sliding off. Repeat with the second patty.
- 5Toast the buns cut-side down on a medium-hot surface for about 60 seconds until lightly golden. This burger should feel like fast food, so don't over-toast them.
- 6Place the cheesy patty on the bottom bun. Pipe a ring of ketchup around the top of the patty, then a ring of mayonnaise directly over the ketchup just like the cartoon version.
- 7Add two tomato slices on top of the sauces. Place one large lettuce leaf over the tomatoes so it covers most of the burger surface.
- 8Spread or drizzle a few streaks of yellow mustard onto the top bun. Close the burger with the mustard side facing down onto the lettuce. Press gently and serve immediately.
