About
Lois puts the family on a diet, so Peter opens a food truck with a menu designed to undo it, and this is the headline item: a burger built on a split glazed doughnut with jam on both sides of the meat.
I made a version of this years ago and the comments told me I had missed the point, so this is the second attempt, done properly. It still does not work. The problem is not the doughnut, it is the arithmetic of sugar: glaze on the outside, jam under the patty, jam again on the bacon. The beef and the bacon are in there somewhere, and you cannot taste either of them. Four and a half out of ten, and I stand by it.
Ingredients
0 / 7
- Glazed donut1 glazed doughnut
- Ground beef150 g ground beef (80/20)
- Cheddar2 slices cheddar
- Bacon2 strips bacon
- Blackberry jam3 tbsp blackberry jam
- SaltSalt
- Black pepperBlack pepper
Recipe
- 1Fry the bacon until crisp and set it aside.
- 2Shape the beef into a thick patty, season it, and cook it through on a hot pan.
- 3Lay the cheddar on the patty and let it melt.
- 4Split the doughnut horizontally. Do not toast it — the glaze burns before the crumb takes any colour.
- 5Spread a heavy layer of jam on the bottom half.
- 6Patty with the cheese on top, then the bacon.
- 7Spoon more jam straight onto the bacon and close it with the top half of the doughnut.
