About Quick

Belgian businessman François Vaxelaire opened the first Quick in Schoten, just outside Antwerp, in 1971, followed by a second restaurant in Waterloo. For decades it was Europe’s most serious home-grown rival to McDonald’s, especially in Belgium and France, where for many people it was simply the other burger place.

Quick made national headlines in France in 2010 when it turned some restaurants into halal-only branches, a move that became a political argument far beyond fast food. Burger King’s owners bought the chain in 2016 and converted many French restaurants, but Quick remains a familiar name in Belgium and North Africa.
