Classic Chicken Sandwich

The sandwich that started a war. A big buttermilk-battered chicken fillet with a shattering, craggy crust, thick pickles and mayo on a buttery toasted brioche bun. Popeyes’ Louisiana seasoning gives it more flavour than its rivals, and the crust is thick enough to crunch through the sauce. It lived up to the hype, which almost never happens.

Popeyes launched the sandwich nationwide on 12 August 2019. A cheeky exchange with Chick-fil-A on Twitter went viral, traffic jumped by more than 100 per cent, and within two weeks restaurants across the country had run out. The frenzy pushed nearly every rival chain to launch or relaunch its own chicken sandwich, and the press started calling it the chicken sandwich wars.
