About Five Guys

Five Guys started in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia, when Jerry Murrell and his sons opened a carry-out burger joint with a deliberately tiny menu. The idea never changed: beef that is never frozen, patties cooked well done on a flat grill, fries cut from whole potatoes, and a box of peanuts to eat while you wait.

The part first-timers get wrong is the size. A plain “Hamburger” at Five Guys comes with two patties; if you want one, you ask for a Little. Then comes the real decision, fifteen toppings, all free, from grilled onions and mushrooms to jalapeños, relish and A1 sauce. The menu below is short because the combinations are not.
