About Bon Appétit

Bon Appétit is the American food magazine, and its YouTube channel grew into one of the most influential food channels of the late 2010s on the back of its test kitchen. Burgers have been a steady subject: smash burgers explained as early as 2016, forty-two ways to cook a hamburger, veggie and lentil burgers, fried chicken and fish sandwiches, and an episode where the test kitchen answers the nineteen burger questions readers ask most.

Its restaurant series go deeper. On the Line and Made to Order spend whole days in kitchens, most memorably at Hamburger America, George Motz’s New York restaurant, where the fried onion smash burger is made by the man who has spent decades documenting American burgers. Other episodes visit Pecking House for its chili-oil fried chicken sandwich, Nowon for a cheeseburger the magazine says you cannot beat at home, and Gotham Burger Social Club, opened by a former Wall Street executive.

There are games too: the supertaster Chris Morocco reverse-engineering Jamie Oliver’s Insanity Burger, Guy Fieri’s brick burger and a Juicy Lucy from taste alone, and a reporter eating nine Juicy Lucys in nine hours in Minneapolis.
