BBQ Pit Boys

The BBQ Pit Boys are a backyard barbecue club whose videos have been on YouTube since 2007, which makes them one of the first cooking channels on the platform. The format has barely changed: a charcoal kettle or pit outdoors, a bearded pitmaster, the house SPG seasoning of salt, pepper and garlic, the promise that it is “real easy to do” and a sign-off about good eating at the Pit.

Burgers are one of their staples. Their 2007 video on grilling beef chuck hamburgers is a YouTube classic, and over the years the list has grown into beer can bacon burgers, bourbon bacon jam smashburgers, smoked whiskey cheeseburgers, beer-steamed cheeseburgers in the Connecticut style, fried cheese burgers, brisket, bison, chicken and barnyard burgers of several meats, bologna burgers, peanut butter burgers, pulled pork cheeseburgers and a burger wrapped around a hot dog with a Doritos crunch.

The titles are often cheeky, and some of the jokes are from another era, but the grilling underneath is straightforward: sear over hot coals, finish indirect, and pile on bacon and cheese.
