Butter Chicken Grilled Burger
India’s favourite curry turned into a burger: a grilled chicken patty topped with makhani sauce, the creamy tomato-and-butter base of butter chicken, and shredded onion on a toasted sesame bun. Saucy and mild rather than hot. A paneer version, the Butter Paneer Grilled Burger, is made the same way for vegetarians.
The story
McDonald’s India’s North and East franchise launched the Butter Chicken Grilled Burger in December 2021, together with a Butter Paneer version, as a burger take on the dishes Indians order at casual restaurants. The makhani sauce was described as butter, tomato, onion and garlic with a hint of fenugreek, poured over a grilled chicken patty on a bun with black and white sesame. The television campaign that followed in February 2022 was built around the sound people supposedly make on the first bite: “Burrraaahh”.

About McDonald's
Nobody sells more burgers. McDonald’s began as a single drive-in run by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California, and became a burger machine in 1948, when the brothers threw out most of the menu and rebuilt the kitchen like a production line. Ray Kroc, a salesman who sold them milkshake mixers, started franchising it in 1955 and later bought the brothers out.
More than 40,000 restaurants in over 100 countries.
