This is the snack Stan remembers from childhood and blames for the worst day of his digestive life, which is the whole reason the show brings it up. I expected it to be the low point of the video.
It is not. Salt and sugar are an old pairing, and a boiled sausage under melted chocolate lands somewhere near a salted caramel: the chocolate covers the meat almost completely, and what comes through underneath is salt rather than sausage. It scores 7.0 mostly on the shock of that. For the video I built a plain hot dog alongside it as a control — bun, sausage, ketchup, mayo, mustard, pickle, onion, tomato and a pinch of chilli — and that one took 7.6, because it does the ordinary job properly. Melt the chocolate gently or it seizes and turns grainy.

Recipe
- 1Simmer the sausages in water until heated through, about 5 minutes. Boiled rather than fried: a crisp skin fights the chocolate.
- 2Break the chocolate into a bowl and melt it in the microwave in short bursts, stirring between each one. Stop as soon as it is smooth — overheated chocolate goes thick and grainy and will not pour.
- 3Warm the buns and butter them lightly.
- 4Sit a sausage in each bun and pour the chocolate over it, enough to cover the whole length.
- 5Eat it straight away, while the chocolate is still loose. Once it sets it turns into a shell and the whole thing goes cold and strange.
